Lord Aberdare’s statement during the House of Lords debate on the creative sector: 4/11/2021
On Thursday 4 November, the House of Lords debated the impact of government policy and spending on the creative industries.
Baroness Featherstone opened the general debate, during which members put their experience to good use to discuss current issues and draw the government’s attention to concerns.
In advance of the debate the Council for Dance, Drama and Musical Theatre (CDMT), which is the Secretariat of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Performing Arts Education and Training liaised with the following speakers outlining the challenges facing performing arts education and training today: Lord Aberdare; Lord Bassam of Brighton; Lord Berkeley of Knighton; Baroness Bonham-Carter of Yarnbury; Earl of Clancarty; Lord Clement-Jones; Viscount Colville of Culross; Earl of Dundee; Baroness Featherstone; Baroness Fleet; Lord Foster of Bath; Baroness Greengross; Baroness Harris of Richmond; Lord Marland; Baroness McIntosh of Hudnall; Lord McNally; Baroness Merron; Baroness Miller of Chilthorne Domer; Lord Parkinson of Whitley Bay; Baroness Prashar; Lord Spencer of Alresford; Lord Storey; Lord Strasburger and Lord Vaizey of Didcot.
In support of CDMT’s Validated awarding organisations offering graded examinations across the performing arts, Lord Aberdare highlighted the opportunities to better integrate primary and secondary arts education with the work of these organisations.
