Advocacy

Advocacy on behalf of members, particularly providers of vocational training and qualifications in dance, drama and musical theatre, is a major CDMT responsibility.

CDMT liaises with the Department for Education (DfE); Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills (Ofsted); Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual); Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA); Quality Assurance Agency (QAA); Creative and Cultural Skills (CCS); Education Funding Agency (EFA) and Arts Council England (ACE) etc in developing and advancing initiatives.

We also provide a national forum in which educators and employers can come together to discuss common concerns, plan for the future and work strategically to promote education, assessment and training in the performing arts. CDMT facilitates a number of industry focussed events and initiatives throughout the year, including:

UK Guide: CDMT’s annual UK Guide to professional education, training and assessment in dance, drama, musical theatre and the performing arts is the definitive handbook for anyone seeking guidance on quality provision in the United Kingdom (Sponsored by Spotlight).

Information Service: CDMT’s free information service to the sector covers all aspects of the performing arts industries.

CDMT Careers Conference: CDMT hosts this one day event packed with advice and information for prospective students interested in finding out more about training routes at CDMT Accredited Schools.

Move It: CDMT has a major presence at this event. The CDMT Teachers Hub brings together the major Awarding Organisations and provides seminars, classes and workshops on all aspects of teaching and learning across the performing arts. CDMT also hosts bespoke workshops, classes and seminars at Move It for young people wanting to know specifically about routes into training.

Aspire: This is CDMT’s three-tiered mentoring scheme which partners a young talented person with an ambition to train in the future, with a dance or musical theatre student currently studying at a CDMT Accredited school who is in turn, partnered with a professional mentor from the industry.
